We Don’t Need No Educayshon

teachers.jpgAlways nice to see the sunny side of labor relations in this country, especially when kids, schools, and education are concerned.

I spotted this ad in Tuesday’s New York Times. Visiting the website, readers may select a state where a teachers union is active, then read collections of anti-union data to their hearts’ content.

This comes at a great time for Florida, when the Lege is looking to reduce its funding obligation to public schools. Meanwhile, in Miami-Dade, teachers are demonstrating downtown to drive home their disgust with a system that wants to balance a budget with shrinking revenues on their paychecks and benefits.

“We’re looking to the future, seeing the big picture,” declared State Senator Orvill Bupkis. “Once we deport our illegal aliens, we’ll need an uneducated Florida homegrown workforce to pick our grapefruits and tomatoes. What we’re doing today will look pretty damn smart tomorrow!”

You know. That makes perfect sense to me for some reason. I’m not sure I can hang out with you anymore.

Union busting has always been a popular past-time. The basic approach is, find a particularly gross case of abuse by an unionized employee, hold it up as “typical of all of them,” and proclaim it the reason for every bad outcome associated with the union’s workplace and workforce.

And in Florida, don’t forget to darkly insinuate that it’s basically a communist plot to undermine the free world.

Can I vote for my third grade teacher? She was a real nag and kept telling me I’d grow up to be a nobody if I didn’t learn to use my brane.

She’s probably dead now anyway but I still want to vote for her.
