Ya Gotta Believe

As long as we’re on military matters, here’s a charming tale of a soldier sent home from Iraq because he conducted a meeting for atheists. Evidently the United States armed forces have no more use for non-believers than homosexuals.

“It’s bad enough we’ve been forced to accept Jews and Negroes,” a Pentagon spokesman complained, bitterly. “But now this? No way. We’d rather have felons and sex offenders.”

What is it we’re fighting for, again?

PS Yeah, I made up the quote. But read the story.

    Well well well.
There are atheists in foxholes after all.

The article says the Army sent him away for his own good–he was was getting death threats from fellow soldiers. That’s right–the good Christian soliders he was serving with were ready to kill him for not believing in their just, passionate, and loving God.

Sounds a bit like the enemy we’re fighting over there, doesn’t it?

I know you’re joking, but the fact is the military has dropped its standards to allow more felons to enlist. Here’s a recent story:

Under pressure to meet combat needs, the Army and Marine Corps brought in significantly more recruits with felony convictions last year than in 2006, including some with manslaughter and sex crime convictions.

Data released by a congressional committee shows the number of soldiers admitted to the Army with felony records jumped from 249 in 2006 to 511 in 2007. And the number of Marines with felonies rose from 208 to 350. — abc news

Private Parts: Thanks for the comment, which I edited for appearance only. As you correctly cite, the military’s preference for felons over atheists has been granted.

Miami Harold: Evidently there’s one LESS atheist is a foxhole now….but several dozen more father rapers.

First day of Fleet Week in Ft Lauderdale. Perfect timing for these 2 posts.
