Here’s a piece of news that will have absolutely zero impact on human behavior.

Cougars take note: marrying a younger man may shorten your life.

That appears to be the findings of a new study published on Wednesday in the scientific journal Demography.  The study says that while it’s been proven men who marry younger women live longer, women who marry younger men actually lower their life expectancy.

The research was conducted by Sven Drefahl from the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in Germany.

Derfahl examined the records of two-million Dutch couples and found that a 2 – 9 year age gap between a husband and wife caused a woman’s mortality rate to increase by 20%.

Conversely, men who marry younger women prolong their lives by 11%.  Younger women who married older men also experienced a shortened life expectancy.  –National Post

The so-called cougars of my acquaintance aren’t even a tiny bit interested in marrying the younger men they prey on.  Like care leases, their boy-toys are kept for limited periods of time.  The purchase option is never exercised.  The hormonal one is.  And that’s not expected to change.

As for the younger women with the older men, well that’s an ancient storyline with tired themes like maturity, money, and freedom (for her), and lust, fantasy, and ego (for him).  Did somebody mention love?  No, I didn’t think so.

Lacking anything like personal experience, I’m not an expert in any of this.  Guido is the only spouse I ever had, and we’re the same age.  We deteriorate together.  And while I look at younger women – I look at ALL women – I don’t want one.  Or two.  Well, maybe two.  (See “fantasy,” above.)  But I also don’t want a bread knife inserted in the floating rib area.

Nothing will change this state of affairs between older men and younger women, and older women and younger men.  People will do what they like, when they can, and in matters like this, ignore the consequences.  It provides fodder for books, movies, theater….and boring demographic studies.  In real life, it makes for great ‘round-the-bar  gossip and he-yukking; splendid entertainment.

And there’s nothing wrong with any of that, either.

Oh dear boy…. chasing younger men, like boozing and smoking, is something one does for the sheer joy and pleasure. Consequences are for later if at all. As they say, I’ll suffer the consequences when I die. Not a second before.

Let me get this straight. When older women marry younger men and younger women marry older men, both demographics shorten their life expectancy? But when a man marries a women his life expectancy increases, regardless of their ages. And when couples are of the same age isn’t the man expected to die first?

Conclusion…marriage is detrimental to women’s life expectancy. What a surprise!

Are you the Guido he always writes about? I always figured he made you up to cover the fact that he’s gay or old or something. I guess though if he made you up he’d make you younger.

actually, guido is older than you. dors that make her a cougar? we can only hope that doesn’t shorten HER lifr, altho being married to you might shorten any woman’s life!
