Oil or Nothing

The 3-day holiday weekend gave me some time to think things over, and I’ve come around to believing that maybe the “Birthers” are on to something.

No,  not their Prime Directive, Holy Grail, and Raison D’Etre, that BHO was born in Kenya, and is not an American citizen, so his presidency is “illegitimate” (and did you notice that he’s Black?).  Where I think they’re on to something is the part of his being foreign, maybe even alien.  Sure he was born in Hawaii, but maybe he spent some formative time in another galaxy.

I mean, what else explains this:  “Where I was wrong,” said President Obama at his press conference on Thursday, “was in my belief that the oil companies had their act together when it came to worst-case scenarios.”  — quoted by Bob Herbert in the NYT.  The whole article is spot on.

The hell?  Whose asshole has he been hiding his head in to come up with a crack like that?  Because nobody on THIS oil-drenched planet would believe anything that stupid.

First of all, the only circumstance for a  “worst-case scenario” the oil companies would even consider concerns profits, not pesky employee deaths or environmental disasters.  That’s just the cost of doing business, like bribing government regulators with sex, booze, and jewelry.  If that’s what Obama meant, he was right – but it (and he) isn’t.  Aren’t.  Whatever.

Where’s he been?  Didn’t we just see how well prepared for disaster the financial giants are for Worst Case Scenario time?  Layoffs, unemployment, foreclosures, plunging investments – all shored up by We The People while the industry leaders handed each other bonuses.  Orwellesque socialism, where we’re all equal, but some more equal than others.   That’s how the industry responds to disasters.

For weeks now we’ve been reading how thoroughly corrupted and entrenched the Federal regulatory apparatus has been for years, and how BP and other oil giants routinely ignore their own experts as well as third parties when it comes to matters of safety and prudence. We all sort of knew that before this – having grown up here on earth, spending a lifetime watching Big Business rape and plunder at every opportunity, this is all a Big Duh.  What was Obama doing?

While the administration’s response to this crisis has been weak, its failure to behave proactively speaks ill of its priorities.  The nation’s energy policy demanded more attention than it got.  It’s not comparable to Katrina – Monkey Boy and Heckuva Job Brownie set the bar so low it’s probably down there with the leaky well – but it’s an indication that Obama’s vision has myopic moments.  That’s a sobering thought for the remainder of his term.

And who wants sobering thoughts on Memorial Day weekend?

What it shows is, for all his left-leaning talk and passion, Obama is just another politician out to preserve his power and influence. He can’t both take on Big Oil and win elections. This oil spill is as much a disaster for his regime as it is for BP.

  2. I disagree. It is comparable to Katrina in many ways because , out of sight and out of mind long term effects don’t make it less devastating.

Actually to prove he isn’t a “socialist” Obama and team should simply say, “You wanted less government, Governor Jindal. You fucking fix it. Just gimme the word and we’ll do what we can”

Put that skinny ,donkey faced douchebag Repub Guv on the line.

It would be fitting and appropriate if that oil washed up against Texas. Anybody notice how quiet that jackass Gove Perry has been all this time? Oil owns his ass and that entire state. Another small-gubmint goober who would scream for Federal money as soon as the oil comes close.
