Here’s how America takes care of the medical needs of an aging work force:
Some people who need medical care but can’t afford it go to the emergency room. Others just hope they’ll get better. James Richard Verone robbed a bank.
Earlier this month, Verone), a 59-year-old convenience store clerk, walked into a Gastonia, N.C., bank and handed the cashier a note demanding $1 and medical attention. Then he waited calmly for police to show up.
He’s now in jail and has an appointment with a doctor this week. – Yahoo News
Read the sad story. For 17 years he drove a trick for Coca Cola, then got laid off and found another driving gig which didn’t last. Desperate, he managed to find part-time work. But:
Verone’s body wasn’t up to it. The bending and lifting made his back ache. He had problems with his left foot, making him limp. He also suffered from carpal tunnel syndrome and arthritis.
Then he noticed a protrusion on his chest. “The pain was beyond the tolerance that I could accept,” Verone told the Gaston Gazette. “I kind of hit a brick wall with everything.”
Very sad on lots of levels, including its reflection on the state of health care in this country. Why are doctors available behind bars and without borders, but not without insurance? Why do the working poor need to become the incriminated to get medical care?
Great system. Envy of the world — isn’t that what members of Congress, whose health care we pay for, insist when they denounce “Obamacare”?
It could be worse. Imagine desperate people arranging for their own arrests because they’re too poor to afford dating and sex. Wow. I see a new teevee show in the works.

Penis-tentiary — The Inmate Game. Yeh, you’re on to someting there.
In the same vein , they finally caught Boston’s Most Wanted Whitey Bulger today. They said he was old and sick and with no fight left. And he has a hernia. Maybe they can fix it with free health care in prison as I hear its a real ‘bulger’
At least Bulger is old enough for Medicare. The unemployed guy in this story is at that bad stage where he’s too young for Medicare, and probably uninsurable. See, under our system you don’t have to worry about a formal death panel, the rules of the game have that outcome built in already.
Three square meals and a roof over my head plus healthcare. Can’t beat it. If only I could just tolerate the other inmates.
Ted: The food is okay. What I like most, though, is the sex. You’d be amazed how much tighter a virgin’s asshole is compared to those actress sluts like Sharon Tate.
