Dead Moon Follows Blue Moon

Sun Myung Moon, the Korean-born founder of the Unification Church and self-proclaimed messiah who built a secretive global business empire that sells cars, guns, newspapers and sushi, has died. He was 92.

He was convicted in May 1982 of failing to report $162,000 in income on his tax returns and served 13 months in the medium- security federal prison in Danbury, Connecticut, and a halfway house……Moon had problems in other countries as well. He was banned from entering the UK from 1995 until 2005 on the grounds that his presence wouldn’t be “conducive to the common good for reasons of public order.”

The evangelist was also labeled a bigot. He referred to homosexuals as “dirty, dung-eating dogs” and said Jews were to blame for the Holocaust because they betrayed Jesus by handing him over to the Romans. He claimed to have personally helped the spirits of Hitler and Stalin become “reborn as new persons.” — Bloomberg

The leader of the ubiquitous Moonies and self-proclaimed “humanity’s savior, messiah, returning lord, and true parent” amassed a personal fortune — a true Republican bootstraps success story!  Remember, too, he foreshadowed Rupert Murdoch’s approach when he purchased the Washington Times in 1982 and converted it to a right-wing mouthpiece.  It remains a favorite source of disinformation and quotes for  wingnuts and teabillies to this day.

In other news of dangerous, invasive reptiles, an 11 foot python was spotted in Marathon.  Good thing they grabbed it — I’d be tempted to attribute that sighting to a bad case of the DTs.

Whether you choose to believe Rev. Moon’s claims or not, he devoted his life to God and inspired millions of souls around the world. When you mock his achievements and belittle his faith, you blaspheme the Lord. I will pray for you, but you’re going to hell.

@Neil: He refered to gays as “dirty, dung-eating dogs.” This is not the speech of one who “devotes his life to God.” It’s not especially nice to the dogs, either.

This was a most interesting post. I didn’t even know that pythons had feet. Wow, 11 of them. Live and learn. Or I could be a right wing Republican …………….and just live.
