I’m having trouble understanding why ‘Pubs seem to be so subdued about this abortion clinic attack in Colorado. The ‘Crats are all over it, of course, starting at the top, and liberals across the board have loudly voiced their outrage and horror. But the ‘Pubs are relatively quiet, playing defense. The strongest view seems to be, “Sure some people got a little shot up, but look — these baby killing fetal-tissue selling spawns of Satan bring on it themselves, don’t they? I mean, didn’t you see that video on the internet?”
I don’t get it at all.
Seems to me they should be embracing this courageous assassin much the way they rushed to the support of the Kentucky clerk who defied the law to refuse signing gay couples’ marriage certificates. In principle, there’s little distinction. Here’s a classic conservative archetype, a rugged individual with little patience for government and bureaucracy, confronting on his own terms what is clearly a moral travesty in his community. The law drags its feet, authorities can’t be trusted, so he grabs his gun and gets ‘er done. He puts his own freedom and very life on the line to defend his solid convictions, prepared, even eager to accept responsibility and the consequences of his own actions.
Isn’t this exactly what ‘Pubs are pressing for? Isn’t this consistent with their ideology, and the logical extension of their calls to action?
But unless I missed it, this hasn’t been their message at all. None of the candidates has stepped up to defend Robert Lewis Dear, let alone celebrate his heroics, despite the ‘Pub cred he put on international display. Why don’t they protect one of their own? Where’s their courage, their conviction, their sense of right and wrong? How can they just abandon a wounded comrade on the battlefield?
Why, it’s almost enough to lead one to believe they’re a pack of spineless hypocrites ungoverned by a moral compass or a single ethical principle.
No, I don’t get it at all. Perhaps one of you can explain it to me.
