Treasure Island, FL – An Ohio woman is recovering after a pelican slammed into her face while she was swimming in the Gulf of Mexico.
Debbie Shoemaker of Toledo, Ohio, was swimming Thursday near Treasure Island, a beach community west of St. Petersburg, when she felt something hit her face.
The bird’s large beak ripped through her cheek, requiring 25 stitches.
An expert surmises the bird was likely diving for fish and hit Shoemaker by accident. The pelican died. — Orlando Sentinel
Uh-oh. The bird died. Only a matter of time before PETA files papers against the woman for animal cruelty. Wouldn’t that be a hoot? I bet the woman would be in stitches.

Some expert. I don’t care how ugly the woman was, not even a pelican would mistake a human for a fish. A horse maybe, like Sara Jessica Parker. But not a fish.
